Questions About Dental Implants
Dental Implants

If you’re dealing with missing teeth and are looking for tooth replacement options, look no further than dental implants as a viable solution. At Shoreline Periodontics, Dr. Toback  offers dental implants treatments to restore patient’s smiles that have been plagued with missing teeth. To better familiarize yourself with this dental procedure listed below are some frequently asked questions about the treatment.

Q: What is a dental implant?

A: A dental implant is a dental prosthetic that was created as a tooth replacement option. The implant consists of a titanium post that is placed within your jaw. An abutment and crown are placed on top of the post to replicate the look and function of a natural tooth.

Q: Can my body reject a dental implant?

A: It’s highly unlikely that your body will reject the implant since your blood type and tissue compatibility are not much of a concern when it comes to the treatment. Dental implants are known to have a very high success rate at around 98%.

Q: Am I a candidate for dental implants?

A: There are very few primary requirements and conditions to be a candidate for dental implants. Patients that display a generally sound bill of oral health and contain a sufficient amount of jaw bone density are great candidates to receive dental implants.

If you happen to have missing teeth you should speak with a dental expert about the possibility of receiving dental implants as a solution. If you are lacking the appropriate amount of bone density your dentist might suggest a bone grafting treatment to overcome this issue.

Q: What is the procedure like?

A: A standard dental implant procedure is broken down into 3 phases

Phase 1: In the first stage, the dentist will insert the titanium post into your jawbone.

Phase 2: The dentist will then place the abutment onto the post

Phase 3: Once the operation site has healed and the post has fused with your jaw, your dentist will then place your custom made tooth-like crown
